When I bought my Canon T1i, I ordered SanDisk 4GB Extreme III – SDHC Class 6 High Performance memory card (SDSDX3-004G-P31, Retail Packaging) – NEW 30MB/s version card along with it. I should have ordered a higher capacity card though. I prefer shooting in RAW mode, which demands lot of storage e.g. Approx. 20 MB / image. Considering card can hold about 250 images in all, its really necessary that I keep transferring photos from card everyday. Otherwise, I have chance to clear some space by deleting unwanted photos. In the middle of shoot, this is not so good idea.

Finally I decided to buy a higher capacity card. I chose Transcend 16 GB this time. There was $10 difference between SanDisk 4GB and Transcend 16GB card. Both of them were class 6 cards and I thought it should be ok. Amazon reviews were good for both of the cards.

Finally I received the Transcend card today and first thing I noticed was, speed! SanDisk is way faster than Transcend!

I did setup a simple test to measure the speed of both cameras. Here is what I did…

Canon 500 D (T1i) + Canon 50mm 1.8 lens in Manual Focus mode + 1/50 sec exposure + Continuous shooting mode + f1.8

I took 15 photos with each card. Manual focus was used to avoid any focusing time. I was just interested in knowing the speed of the operation. Results were as following:

SanDisk – 15 photos – Camera started taking pause after 9 shots – Total time required to finish writing 15 images was 20 seconds.
Transcend – 15 photos – Camera started taking pause after 8 shots – Total time required to finish writing 15 images was 39 seconds.

The speed was almost double compared to Transcend.

If you are tight on budget and capacity is main concern then you should buy Transcend. If you are looking for fast memory cards, then look something else.

I know that this book is extremely popular, and I’m definitely not one to believe that censorship is the key to healthy children, but I was amazed and troubled by this book, and by the fact that it’s on many school reading lists.

Within the first couple of chapters the reader is introduced to the main character who favors a body guard that is trained to kill, tortures and drugs an alcoholic fairy (yes, I understand the humor of it, but I’m not sure it’s a good message to send to kids), and is the youngest member of a family with a long criminal history. Artemis has no redeeming qualities, and he is, as one reviewer put it, “a nasty little boy.” Definitely not someone I want my daughter looking up to. If this was a book for teens I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but there is no way my kid is going to read it before the age of thirteen.

Look no further, I wanted to find more information about this watch and do some more extensive research before my purchase. Then I stumbled onto this blog by DC Rainmaker and I was sold! This review was the most informative review I found so far. I’ve had the watch for almost a month now and I love it and got exactly what I expected from the review. Great training device, and most importantly I think the watch makes the running that much more fun.

What an amazing book. The book club I attend had chosen this after all the great reviews and I wasn’t disappointed. It is one of those books that you just can’t put down, I purchased it for my Kindle and couldn’t stop reading – in fact I had to stop last night around midnight when I realised what the time was! It tells the story of 1960’s America in the south from the point of view of 3 completely different women, two of whom were the hired help. It was very moving and well written. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I thought the ending was a little abrupt and left a few questions unanswered. Go out an buy this book, you won’t regret it!
